In a press release Director of Carmax.com Ann Yauger said, “People told us that generally they know the options that are important to them, but often don’t know which vehicle makes and models offer them.
Options? How about a pop-up bulletproof shield for the backlight, a smokescreen generator, a rotating license plate, and a pair of 30-caliber machine guns behind the front bumper over-riders.
When I worked at CarMax, leather or cloth was typically the second question I'd ask after what kind of budget the shopper had in mind. And usually, there'd be a pretty firm preference either way. It was also a good way to figure out if the buyer was realistic about what they could get for the money.
ABS is probably the most important one on the whole list. But I had just assumed that it was on most cars nowadays as standard equipment. I wouldn't buy one without it. As for cruise control, I have never had any use for it, living in Hawaii, seeing as to how the H1 is under 30 miles long...so cruise control is probably the least requested option here.
If I’m interested in a car I can find the options myself.
Now that I have thought about this, this is right on. I have never met a salesperson who knew what options (and sometimes standard equipment) was truly available, so one has to research it himself anyway.
Yes and no...if you're in the market for, say, an Accord or a Tahoe or something that comes in some pretty variable levels of trim, it makes sense to use the website search criteria to narrow down the list of vehicles that you actually want to look at before you go off to CarMax. That's what this item is all about...what are the features people are looking for WHEN SHOPPING AT CARMAX. And believe me, there wasn't anything that was sweeter than someone who came walking through the door with a printout in hand of a vehicle on the lot, saying "I want this car." At that point, you just hoped that the buyer could pay for the damn things.
Considering the fact that an automobile is just a means of getting from one place to the next. I would never pay the price for an automobile that includes most of these options.

Interesting that cruise control is searched for, because I would have assumed that it's standard on most models.

Everything else is pretty much useless.

Considering none of those options are in the top ten for me, I guess I am out of step with the rest of the buyers.
